a quote from the movie: a good woman

I like America. Name me another society that's gone from barbarism to decadence... without bothering to create a civilization in between.
Tribute to American efficiency.

Some may argue that the Americans merely took the greatest ideas of the Europeans to build their foundation.

i think america may have been much better than what it is... having been formed by a so big mixture of cultures (i wouldn't say only european, i think) it could have chosen the best part of every one and could have created a really new world, a society that went over the decadence in europe... however, it didn't, it essentially created a society based on greed and obsessive puritanism... although i do find the quote funny hahaha (probably by wilde, as rob says), strictu sensu i don't think it is true, i don't think america went from barbarism to decadence, because i don't think there never was barbarism to begin with (at least not in the native americans)
